11º DIA - 23/10/2012 - Passeio por Pisa - Giardino Scotto / Partida Pisa -> Gênova / Passeio por Gênova - Porto de Gênova
Mais uma vez, acordamos cedo para passearmos pela cidade. Levantamos por volta das 08:30h e nos arrumamos para tomarmos o café-da-manhã no hotel. E que café-da-manhã fantástico! O salão do hotel é bem grande e, como nas fotos que vimos no site do Booking, é bem farta a quantidade e variedade de itens à disposição, desde pães de vários tipos, biscoitos, croissants, máquinas de café, leite, chá, sucos, iogurtes (que foi o ponto alto do café), e vários tipos geléias, manteigas e frios para acompanhar. Dieta? Isso não existe em hotéis assim... aproveitamos um pouco de tudo.
Depois do café, voltamos para o quarto e organizamos nossas coisas, arrumamos nossas malas e nos preparamos para fazer o check-out, já que a ideia era deixar novamente as malas no depósito de bagagens para passearmos sem nos preocuparmos com a hora e depois só pegar as malas e ir para a estação para partirmos para Gênova no trem de 16:01h.
Saímos do hotel por volta das 10:00h e seguimos pela Via Filippo Corridoni, procurando onde chegar até as ruínas da Fortezza di San Gallo (hoje conhecido como Giardino di Scotto). Chegamos até a Via Giuseppe Saragat e percebemos que estávamos perdidos, mesmo com mapa em mãos (incrível, não? Pois é, nós conseguimos). Voltamos e entramos na Via Amerigo Vespucci, depois na Via Francesco da Buti e seguimos até encontrar a praça que fica perto da Fortaleza. Quando avistamos os muros do Forte ficamos um pouco decepcionados, pois ele é um dos lugares que parecem não receber uma boa atenção quanto à conservação, como havia falado no post anterior. A Fortaleza, depois das várias modificações ao longo dos anos e passar a se chamar Giardino Scotto, tem uma área bem grande que foi transformada num espaço público utilizado para exposições, espetáculos teatrais, concertos e cinema a céu aberto no verão. Entramos e tiramos algumas fotos e seguimos por dentro dele até chegarmos à parte do jardim, onde há um parquinho bem bonito e todo colorido com alguns brinquedos e havia alguns estudantes por lá. Ficamos na parte do mini-carrossel e, depois de conversarmos e tirarmos algumas fotos ali, saímos e seguimos pela Lungarno Galileo Galilei até a Ponte Mezzo.
Já eram por volta de 13:00h e durante o percurso até a ponte concluímos que o melhor de Pisa é realmente só a Piazza dei Miracoli, então decidimos voltar ao hotel para pegarmos as nossas malas e tentarmos pegar o próximo trem para Gênova, ao invés de esperarmos pelo trem de 16:01h que havíamos comprado antecipadamente. Conseguimos comprar passagens para o trem de 13:44h. Compramos numa das máquinas que há na estação (há máquinas tipo as de refrigerantes que vendem de tudo) um sanduíche para cada para comermos durante a viagem e ficamos aguardando até a hora da partida. O trem saiu exatamente às 13:44h e a viagem foi bem tranquila. Passamos por várias cidades e estações, muitas à beira-mar, como as das regiões de La Spezia, Cinque Terre, Levanto e outras que fazem parte de algumas das mais belas paisagens costeiras da Itália, até chegarmos por volta das 16:15h à Estação Piazza Principe, em Gênova. Desembarcamos e, como de praxe, ficamos meio perdidos na estação até encontrarmos a saída, e para piorar, uma das rodinhas da minha mala quebrou. Depois de rodar pela estação, encontramos a saída e fomos procurar nosso hotel, o Hotel Continental, que fica praticamente em frente à estação. Ao entrarmos no hotel, avistamos logo uma das atrações dele, como se vê nas fotos: o elevador antigo. Mesmo com as reformas de modernização do hotel, ele foi mantido com o formato original da construção e ainda funciona perfeitamente. Fizemos o check-in, recebemos as instruções da recepção e fomos para o quarto. Nos deram uma suíte enorme, toda requintada e bem arrumada, com um banheiro enorme com uma banheira de hidromassagem.
Depois de devidamente instalados na suíte, pegamos a mochila e fomos dar uma volta pelo porto para aproveitarmos o restante do dia. Descemos a Via Balbi, que é uma das vias principais da cidade, até a Piazza della Nunziata, onde fica a Basilica della Santissima Annunziata del Vastato, e seguimos até a Via Antonio Gramsci que margeia todo o Porto de Gênova. Atravessamos a via e, enfim, chegarmos à região do porto, que à primeira vista não parece um lugar muito seguro, devido à quantidade de camelôs e seus 'ajudantes' que se espalham pela região com suas mercadorias espalhadas pela calçada. Mas tomando alguns cuidados, pode-se andar tranquilamente por lá e aproveitar o passeio nas docas, de onde se tem uma belíssima vista do mar, especialmente do entardecer. Fomos até o Aquário de Gênova, um dos principais aquários do mundo, mas ele já estava fechado. Então aproveitamos para tirar algumas fotos do pôr-do-sol e depois olhar as lojas que tem na galeria do aquário.
Como já estava escurecendo, resolvemos voltar e procurar algum mercado para comprarmos algo para o jantar. Encontramos uma placa do Carrefour Express e fomos até lá... subimos uma viela que segue perto da Basílica até encontrarmos a loja na Piazza di S. Agnese. O mercado não era grande, mas bem abastecido de muitos itens legais, como as saladas prontas, frutas embaladas e produtos de fabricação própria. Terminamos as compras e voltamos para o hotel.
Já eram quase 20:00h quando chegamos ao hotel exaustos de tanto andarmos e a única coisa que conseguíamos pensar era em tomar um belo banho restaurador na banheira que estava à nossa espera. Depois nos arrumamos para jantar e ficamos conversando e decidindo o roteiro do dia seguinte... objetivo principal: Acquario di Genova... (segue no 12º DIA)

1) Como no post anterior, reforçando a informação: Pisa é realmente uma cidade estranha, pois tem um bom comércio, bons restaurantes e lugares legais para visitar, mas a principal atração é mesmo a Praça dos Milagres, que parece ser a única parte bem conservada, pois o restante da cidade parece não receber a atenção que deveria.
2) Continua a dica para quem vai de carro para Pisa: cuidado com as áreas de trânsito restrito, pois um descuido e a multa é certa.
3) Em Gênova parece não ter tantas áreas de trânsito restrito e é mais tranquilo de andar de carro. O problema é o de toda grande cidade: estacionamento e engarrafamento.
4) Gênova é uma cidade com muitos prédios antigos e vielas estreitas, especialmente as que descem em direção ao porto, que fazem dela uma cidade fantástica para se visitar.
5) O pôr-do-sol na região do Porto de Gênova é um espetáculo que pode render belíssimas fotos.

11th DAY - 23/10/2012 - Tour in Pisa - Giardino Scotto / Departure - Pisa -> Genova / Tour in Genova - Port of Genova
Once again, we woke early to tour by the city. We got up at around 08:30am and got ready to have breakfast at the hotel. And what a fantastic breakfast! The hotel lounge is quite large and, like the pictures that we saw on Booking website, the quantity and variety of itens available are great, like many kinds of breads, biscuits, croissants, coffee, milk, tea, juices, yogurts (which was the highlight of the breakfast), and various fruit jellies, butters and other types of side dishes. Diet? It doesn't exist in hotels like this... we enjoyed a bit of everything.
After the breakfast, we returned to our room and organized our things, packed our bags and got ready to do the check-out, since the main idea was let our bags at the hotel's luggage storage, walk by the city without worrying about the time, and then just get our bags and go to the train station to get the train to Genova at 04:01pm.
We got out of the hotel at around 10:00am and went by Via Filippo Corridoni, trying to get to the ruins of Fortezza di San Gallo (nowadays known as Giardino di Scotto). We went until the Via Giuseppe Saragat and realized that we were lost, even holding a map (unbelievable, huh? Yeah, we did it). We got back and entered on Via Amerigo Vespucci, and then on Via Francesco da Buti and went ahead until finding the square near the Fortezza. When we saw the Fortezza's walls we were a little disappointed, because it seems that it's one of the places which don't receive a nice care, as I said at the previous post. Fortezza di San Gallo, which now is called Giardino di Scotto or Cittadella Nuova, has a very large area that was turned into a public space used for exhibitions, theater performances, concerts and open-air cinema during the summer, after many modifications over the years. We entered there, took some pictures and went to the garden, where there is a beautiful and multicolored playground with some toys and there were some students there. We went to the mini-carrousel and, after talking and taking some pictures there, we went out and walked by a street next to Arno River, the Lungarno Galileo Galilei, towards to Ponte Mezzo.
It was at around 01:00pm and, while we were walking, we realized that the best of Pisa is really only the Piazza dei Miracoli, then we decided to return to the hotel to get our luggages and instead of wait for the train of 04:01pm that we had bought in advance, we would try to take the next train to Genova, so we bought tickets to 01:44pm. While we were waiting the departure time, I bought a sandwich and a soda for each to eat during the trip and we were waiting until the departure time. The train departed at exactly 01:44pm and the trip was very good. We passed through many towns and stations, many of them at the seaside, like La Spezia, Cinque Terre, Levanto and some other regions that are some of most wonderful coastal landscapes of Italy, until we arrive at Piazza Principe Station in Genova at around 04:15pm. We got off the train and, as usual, we were lost at the station, but as if wasn't enough, one of the wheels of my suitcase broke while we were looking for the exit. Damn! So, after finally find the exit, we went looking for our hotel, Hotel Continental, which is almost in front of the station.Arriving at the hotel, we saw one of its main attractions, as seen in the pictures: the ancient lift. Even with the modernizing of the hotel, they maintained the lift with the original aspect and it still works perfectly. So, we did the check-in, received the main instructions and went to the our room. They gave us a big room, very well decorated and cleaned, with a big bathroom with a hot tub.
After organizing all things in our room, we got the backpack and went for a walk around the Port of Genova to enjoy the rest of the day. We walked down the Via Balbi, that is one of the main streets of the city, towards to Piazza della Nunziata, where the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata del Vastato is placed, and then we went to Via Antonio Gramsci which borders all the Port of Genova. We crossed the street and finally we got to the port area, which at first sight it doesn't seem a safe place, due to the amount of street vendors and their 'helpers' who are through the region with their wares spread on the sidewalk. But taking some cares, you can walk calmly there and enjoy the tour on the docks, where you have a wonderful view of the sea, especially at sunset. We went to the Acquario di Genova, one of the most important aquariums in the world, but it was already closed. So we just took some pictures of the sunset and then walked by the gallery under the aquarium looking some shop windows.
How the day was already getting dark, we decided to return and look for a supermarket to purchase something for dinner. We found a Carrefour Express's sign indicating the location of a store and we went to there... we climbed a narrow alley near the Basilica and finally found the store at Piazza di S. Agnese. The store isn't large, but it has many good items such as prepared salads, packed fruits and products of own manufacture. We returned to the hotel after purchasing everything we needed.
It was at around 08:00pm when we arrived at the hotel. We were exhausted of walking a lot and the only thing we could think was to take a relaxing bath in the tub that was waiting for us. Then we got ready for dinner and were talking and deciding next day... main target: Acquario di Genova... (continues on 12th DAY)

2) The same tip for people who will visit Pisa by car: beware of restricted traffic areas, because if you make a little mistake, you will certainly receive a fine.
3) Genova seems not have many restricted traffic areas and it's easy to trip by car . The main problems are the same of big cities: parking areas and traffic jam.
4) Genova is an old city with many old buildings and narrow alleys, especially those ones which go towards the port, that make this city a fantastic place to visit.
